Talking Barbie

There are many Barbie terms that can be confusing to beginners and experienced doll collectors alike, (also known as sucker talk and deliberately designed to confuse and mislead the uninitiated, but let's face it we suspect a lot of things are confusing to these people which is why we type slowly)
here we explain the definitions of her eras:

Vintage Barbies are considered to be those made from 1959 to 1966 (they are fashioned after a German sex toy doll from the 1950's called Bild Lilli and look sleazy.)

V

Mod Barbies are those made from 1967 to 1976 when Mattel decided to change her face so she would look younger and sweeter (which just means the men at Mattel reached mid-life crisis & wanted their sex toys to be younger & sweeter.)

M

Superstar Barbies are those made from 1977 to today, so called because Mattel introduced the Superstar face mould in 1977, it is the open mouthed smile still used on most new dolls today
(well, there's only so much a 19 year old teenage fashion model can do with her mouth shut.)

S

Pink Box Barbies are those made to be played with by girls, these dolls can have their clothes changed and their hair brushed, they are the lower priced Barbies and sold in toy shops, supermarkets and department stores (the common, cheap, street girl.)

PB

Collectors Edition Barbies are designed for the over 12 collector market, they usually have extravagant clothing and accessories that are hard or impossible to remove and hairstyles that are often quite solid and unbrushable. They are sold to be displayed and not to be played with, many collectors don't take these dolls out of their boxes, sometimes as a one off but more normally as part of a series. (The ones with a penthouse that cost baseball players $3000 a night, drug them and run.)

Mattel Loses

On Monday 27th of January 2003 the  US Supreme Court denied a trademark-infringement claim by Mattel against MCA Records over the hit song Barbie Girl by Danish pop group Aqua!!

Appeals Judge Alex Kozinski correctly noted that the first 1959 Barbie was similar to a "German street walker" gradually transformed into a long-legged American with a "fictitious figure." He ended his written opinion with "The parties are advised to chill."

Tom Forsythe, 46, from Kanab, Utah, has won a five-year legal battle with Mattel after a judge rejected their legal action as "groundless & unreasonable."

Tom is an artist who created 78 images of Barbie in suggestive and satirical poses named Food Chain Barbie in 1998.  "I'm ecstatic," he said. "It's wonderful that a major corporation is having to write a big cheque for its legal shenanigans."  His lawyer added: "Large corporations will have to think twice before seeking to use high-cost litigation to put pressure on artists and other commentators."
